When it comes to making an info-product, there are 2 types of approaches to choose from. You can either be creative or innovative. Creative means, you look at the market and come up with a good solution that fills a need in that market.
In other words, you think of how your info-product can solve a problem that currently exists in the market now. For example, if you know that there are a lot of individuals having a problem generating, traffic to their sites, you come up with a traffic generating software, or possibly a video that shows ways of increasing traffic.
Or let's say, if you observe that many people are trying to build lists to which they can promote their offers, you can make list building software, or an e-book that explains how to build lists, or both. In effect, you may even be one of the first person to be in that market, if your info-product is unique, and contains new information for the market. This would eliminate the problem of competition in your niche.
However if you want to reduce your risk of failing and earn some cash quickly, you may prefer to be an innovator. An innovator observes the existing products created to fulfill the demand of a market. He then looks how good the sales volume is for those products. By doing that, he can choose a product that he knows, already has lots of demand. Then, an innovator seeks to offer a superior solution to the current products, or to possibly coast on the success of the existing opportunity.
Not sure what this means? Let me explain ...
If you happen to see that there are lots of traffic generation software right now in the market, it's because there are a number of innovative marketers capitalizing on the huge demand for traffic information and sources. Another example of an innovative marketer is a company called Get Response and other list building companies that create software that enables people to effectively build a list of people.
These companies were created to follow in the success of a creative company like Aweber. As Aweber grew in its success, proving that there is a market and heavy demand for list building products, new companies quickly followed providing similar services. They even identified some of the perceived weaknesses with Aweber, and looked for ways to differentiate themselves by addressing some of those weaknesses, thereby creating a competitive advantage.
Innovative marketing doesn't just mean duplicating what is successful and trying to be better, bigger or less expensive. That's one very narrow interpretation on how to make money which can and will often fail. You will alter the whole creative profit model by simply adding 2 ingredients:
1. Finding an unique angle
Finding an angle means positioning yourself in alignment those who made it first. Take for instance, Clickbank.com, which is a successful company. But soon, other affiliate tracking tools that did not have a built-in credit card processor also became very successful as well, by teaming up with third party credit card companies, so they could provide a similar service to Clickbank. A good example of this, is a company like PayDotCom.
